C pillar leak

Hello everybody, I'm new and I couldn't find a similar post (search button + google translate is not working)...
Is there someone who had a c pillar leak?

Hi Alberto, welcome to Hellenic VW Eos Club!

As far as your problem is concerned, the first step is to hydrate the roof seals. You can watch this video tutorial on how to do it, and also read the relevant guide made from our member "Geladi" - for this you will need a lot of translation, unfortunately.

After you perform these steps, and if the problem persists, you can also put some kind of rubber under the seal (where the rear shield meets the roof). This is the type of rubber we use to insulate doors and windows (3M probably).

I hope these will help you eliminate any leaks!

Almost everybody had a leakage at the c pillar as well as at the a pillar. Here is a good tutorial in order to solve the problems at the a pillars.

As far as for the c pillar the solution that Vabatzis proposed with the rubber, (armaflex we call it here in Greece and it is used for covering the water pipelines) is the best, in order to avoid to go to the Vw workshop and pay a lot of money without finalizing the problem.

You must also use a plastic bottle with water,like this,to make sure if leaks the tube.

Before knowing this forum I been to the dealer a few times..they resolved NOTHING and my back is still burning
I already solved the a pillar using your guides (now I have only a few drops) and I use krytox every 3/4 months..do you have an image of where to put the rubber seal?
Do I have to remove some seals to put the rubber under it?

You will just have to pull it up and enter the armaflex at the point we indicated. Nothing needs to be removed.

the real problem comes out because the outer corner seals at the back of the roof that leading to the drainage, are not sqeezed enough anymore(due to weather conditions or due to bad lubrication maintanance) and you have to put this rubber from the opposite way in order to pressure them back again and close the small gap between them. Thats why you see drops inside your car. The water goes inside from this small gap that of course is not vissible by eye.

I know that is not easy to describe it by words so try to understand the following photo.





The two red lines showing the seals that have to be pressed back from the opposite side. So the only thing to do is to place underneath the rubbers and when you close the roof, the rubbers will be pressed up the seals and the gap will close.

The water from here drips down on the flap and then it goes filling the "fish tanks" (where the longer part of the roof lies when the car is open).
I also found water in the spare wheel..I think is always water coming from the c pillar..

I keep on bother you as I'd like to get rid of all the leaks problems of my Eos (I don't want to sell her!)
I found water as in the pics...the pic water.jpg is the left side, probably this was the c pillar leak problem (the right side was dry)
...but the boot was wet either left and right rise (pic wet2 and wet3), what could it be?
I hope it's not water coming up from the wheels!

In theese days I'm looking for the armaflex and the isopropilic alcohol (this stuff is really hard to find!)

Did you check your drainage? Did you check if it is any hole at the drainage?

IPA can be found at drug stores and perhaps at some hardware stores.We find it rather easily at our drug stores for about 12 euros per liter.Did i say welcome?

no crashes, the drainage are free (I cleaned them the day after I found the water inside).
Maybe the water came in because they were clogged, but I don't know if the water in the boot came from the c pillar...
The boot seal has 2 small holes

I heard someone bought it at 2 euros per liter at the hardware store (I can find it on the web at about 6/8 euros per liter)

What are you going to do with isopropilic alcohol? I guess I missed something.

In fact the leakage issue in C-pillar is more complicated and I doubt if you ever get rid of it. I don't want to dissapoint you, but rather inform you.

Apart from the above you should check something else too. In this particular area you will also see that 2 seals are osculated. One is touching the other. I am talking about these two.



In case you realize that these two are separated you must use some king of glue which is used for insulation of some electrical contacts and plugs especially for outdoor use or in ships. It is like a glue which turns out to become solid like rubber. I don't really know how it is called but I guess you can find it easily. It is usually cherry red or black in colour.

So, you take a little amount of it, place it between these two seals and press them together. After some time it will dry and keep them together and insulated. If these two are not attached, you can easily realize where water is going...

As far as the boot is concerned I believe that sometime you had a lot of water in youy left part and this water just passed from one side to the other. I would suggest you fix the C-pillar leakage following these steps that are described above, dry the boot and use a LOT of water so as to check for further leakage. Moreover, check if there is "new" water entrance in the boot.

I need the isopropilic to clean the seals, I read it's the best thing to clean them.What do you use?
I noticed the 2 seals are not good glued togheter so I bought some black sealant used for boats and others.
I'm gonna do the work as soon as possible
1-put some armaflex (or something similar) under the seals
2-glue togheter the 2 seals near the drainage
3-clean all the seals
4-krytox!

I guess that it is too much to use this thing so as to clean the seals. Water is just right for this job. I hope you don't do any damage with this, as these seals appear to be a little sensitive with some products. Even the manual book says that No silicone products shall be used for the seals.

I am not sure about this, but in my opinion, if silicone is considered harmful what about it?

I think you should not use silicone to lubricate the seals because it will "dry" them, but to "glue" the seals I don't know what else to use...the manifacturer says this is used to make seals (the product is from the Pattex)

You are right! That's the point. But, I was refering to Isopropylene that you want to buy in order to clean the seals. I am afraid that you may do some damage with this. Just water is ok to clean them.
The other product you use to glue these seals is just fine. Probably is exactly the same to what I was describing.

I was surfing on the web and I found that maybe a neoprene glue is better for joining the seal...

little update: today I removed some coating in the rear and...I found water (see 2 pics)!
I also removed the hydraulic pump sponge container and placed it near a heater to dry it (it was soaked)
Tomorrow I have no time for my Eos (I will only put in order again the pump), so next week end I'll think about the seals

Although neoprene glue is used for scuba wetsuits, I think it would work.

Are you sure you hadn't forgot sometime the boot open? I know it's a silly question, but just in case. This sponge you are mentioning is on the left side isn't it?

The pic is of the left side, I think the water came from the c pillar because that hole is just behind the "fish tank".
The sponge is just next to the spare wheel and it's where the pump lies.
I hope I never let the lid open

Yesterday I cleaned the seals and lubricated them with the krytox, I also repaired the "c pillar join".
To avoid musk and algae in the drain holes I put inside some water + copper sulphate.
I also made a little box to keep the pump dry in case of more water incoming.
